Cryogenic Tempering Minimum Order
[CryoMin]

Cryogenics, heat treating and stress relieving are processes that quickly gained in popularity among the higher levels of racing. With more and more companies now offering these services the technique has slowly filtered down to the grass roots racers. If you are looking for that upper edge in reliability and durability of engine and transmission components then this for you. After investing thousands and thousands of dollars on high quality parts why wouldn't you want the added insurance of keeping your drivetrain together by enhancing it's structural integrity?

Most enthusiasts have only a basic knowledge of the steps that need to be taken for cryogenic treatment. The process involves performing an initial heating treatment to the steel, aluminum or titanium parts. Once the parts have returned to room temperature they are loaded into a deep cryogenic processor and the freezing process is then controlled by a computer using predetermined profiles. Liquid nitrogen gases are introduced and the temperature is brought down to –300 degrees at approximately one degree per minute. Once the target temperature is reached it is maintained for 24 to 36 hours. At the end of that period the parts are slowly warmed back up to room temperature, again at about one degree per minute. A triple heat temper is then performed, from 275 to 375 degrees in three different heat and cooling cycles. This whole process creates a stronger, denser, more uniform molecular structure that relieves stress and will actually make the surfaces smoother. Some of the components that will benefit from cryogenic treatment are: crankshafts, connecting rods, camshafts, pistons, valves and valve springs, heads, rocker arms, spark plugs, engine blocks, intake/exhaust manifolds, ring & pinion gears, brake rotors, transmission cases and internal components, flywheels, etc.

Engines become more stabilized with a reduced tendency for warpage or cracking of cylinder walls. There is less of a chance for blow-by on the pistons, more compression and higher horsepower can then be acheived and there will be a longer time between rebuilds. Aluminum pieces that are treated will become as strong as steel, while still retaining their lightweight advantages. Treating the cylinder heads allows for less deflection and distortion in the head. It provides even heating in each of the combustion chambers providing more consistent power from start to finish.

Our rates for Cryogenic Tempering changes based on the combined weight of the products that require treatment. Please select this item when the combined weight of the components are less then 10 pounds. Our rates improve as the combined weight of your items increases.
